Abbie Miller - Membership and outreach Co-Chair
Tell us about yourself in 2-4 sentences. For example, your profession, how long you’ve been a Soar member, etc. and a fun fact.
I am a family medicine physician. I work as a hospitalist and medical director for Fairview. My husband and I have supported Children’s Cancer Research Fund for several years and have been a member of Soar since the beginning in 2017.
Why did you choose to join the Soar Leadership Council?
My stepson Kyle was diagnosed with stage 4 neuroblastoma in 2005 and battled the disease until he earned his angel wings in 2009. I joined Soar so that we can find a cure for this horrible disease.
What are you most excited about working on as a Soar Leadership Council Board Member?
I am a co-chair of the Membership Committee. I am excited to meet prospective members, share stories and get other people excited about the opportunity we have to make a difference in the lives of so many people.
What do you wish others knew about Soar? What motivates you to continue to volunteer on the Soar Board? What makes it special?
I wish other people knew about Soar as a way to be more involved with Children’s Cancer Research Fund and make a larger impact in the fight against childhood cancer. Last year, we had the opportunity to tour one of the research labs at the University of Minnesota and learn about the work being done there. We also had the opportunity to serve dinner to the children and families battling cancer at Masonic Children’s Hospital. Both visits were such powerful reminders of the important work being done with our contributions of time and resources.
What do you enjoy doing when you’re not working or volunteering?
My husband and I enjoy traveling, gardening, and riding motorcycles and dirt bikes.
